Transient alteration of awareness
Transient alteration of awareness is a condition that comes and goes (Transient) where the patient has a change (Alteration) of there level of consciousness (Awareness). The condition may manifest itself in the form of a seizure, syncope (fainting/passing-out,) and other interruptions of mental awareness. Some reasons for this condition may be psychological, cardiologic, or neurologic in nature.
Since few individuals experience transient alteration of awareness episodes in the presence of a medical professional, detailed interviewing of the patient and their family members is suggested. A through review of the patient's medical and social histories is also recommended. Further testing is most likely needed to rule out causes and to pinpoint the reason for this condition.
